Jerrel Lee Wallace, Sr., passed away at home on September 8th at the age of 88. He was born in Sidon on December 14, 1924 to Harvey Jefferson and Belma Price Wallace. He married Dorothy Allen of Pine Snag on December 6, 1947 and they moved to their present home at the base of Joy Mountain in 1950. Although he worked in Searcy most of his adult life, he loved farming and only his failing health kept him from it. He was a faithful member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, having been elected as treasurer in 1950 and ordained as a deacon on his wedding anniversary in 1952. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; sisters Linda Ruth, Kathleen and Wanda Lou; and a brother, Johnny Neil. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and five children: Jerrell Wallace, Jr. and wife Carol of Austin, Texas, Lewie Wallace and wife Beverly of West Lafayette, Indiana, Beverly Reynolds of Little Rock, Vicki Shafer and husband Steve of Searcy, and Robert Wallace and wife Cindy of Searcy. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Jeremy, Nicole, Jared, Matt, Samantha, Sarah, Catherine, Brandon, Michael and Brett, as well as 17 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express appreciation to Hospice for their compassionate care at a difficult time for the family.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.
