AMMONS, Martha Caroline SUMNER - Simple and beautiful were the funeral services for Mrs. W.E. Ammons which were held at the family home west of Bentonville at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. A.W. Henderson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, read the impressive passage from the last chapter of Proverbs and a prayer was made by the Reverend W.C. Wheat. Mrs. Ammons passed away on Tuesday morning at 10:00 o'clock after suffering over a year with mortal illness. Nearly a hundred automobiles made the funeral cortege to the cemetery where interment was made in the mausoleum. Martha Caroline Sumner Ammons was born in Mississippi October 13, 1869. Her forebears were pioneers of renown, the town of Sumner, Miss. being founded by and named for the grandfather of Mrs. Ammons. Her youth was lived in her native state and on September 30, 1886 she married William Erwin Ammons, who is also a native Mississippian. To them were born four children, one daughter having died in infancy. The other children survive and are W.L. Ammons and Jess Ammons, sons, and Miss Ruby Ammons, daughter. Her husband, five grandchildren, seven brothers and two sisters, also survive her. In early life Mrs. Ammons united with the Baptist church but after her marriage she joined the Presbyterian church with her husband. The Ammons family came to Bentonville in 1910 and have since made their home here.
