Ben Frank "Frankie" Rhodes, 80, of Dyer passed away on Friday, April 7, 2006, in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Dyer. For 47 years he was the owner and operator of Rhodes Grocery in Dyer. During both the Korean War and World War II, Frank served in the Army where he held the rank of master sergeant. Throughout his life he was a member and served as a deacon of the Dyer Baptist Church, established in part by his grandfather. He was also a member of the Dyer Volunteer Fire Department. Frank loved woodworking and handy crafts, including his famous aluminum "coke can" airplanes.

The funeral, officiated by Pastor David Pierson, will be held at the Dyer Baptist Church, 602 Washington St. in Dyer today at 3 p.m. Burial will be held at the Dyer Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Bonnie Rhodes of Dyer, and his sister, Ruth Winborn of Tulsa. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Kamm Rhodes, with whom he shared 59 blessed years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughter, Jaynee Cobb of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Kristie Cobb, and twin grandsons, Nicholas and Jeremy Cobb; a niece, Karen Winborn Frederick and her husband Ty and their children, Ryan and Andrea.
