FAYETTEVILLE — Betty Ruth Taylor Walker went to be with our Lord in Heaven on Feb. 23, 2011, in Jacksonville, Fla, with her beloved daughter, Mindy, by her side, exactly one month before her 85th birthday.

She was born March 23, 1926, in Fayetteville to Ralph Lewis Taylor and Gertrude Erwin Taylor. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. David Louis Walker; and first daughter, Mary Elizabeth Taylor Walker, both of Fayetteville.

She was the last surviving sister of Annette Taylor Williams, and brothers, Ralph Lewis Taylor Jr. and Jerry Taylor, all of Fayetteville, of the Greatest Generation.

She was a 1944 graduate of Fayetteville High School, attended Fayetteville Business College and worked at the Annex to The Pentagon in Washington, D.C., before the war's end. She was a homemaker, a terrific cook, a member of D.A.R., a member of Washington County Historical Society, having done extensive genealogy on her family's history.

She was a Methodist and loved birdwatching, antiques, the music of the Big Bands and jazz. She experienced high adventure on the Colorado River rubber raft float trip, parasailing in Mexico, camping all over Arkansas, Buffalo River, Roaring River, fishing, picnicking, the old rustic Bella Vista cabins, water skiing and she was an avid swimmer and golfer. She was a wonderful storyteller and always made us laugh a lot!

Her family left Fayetteville in 1963 and moved to Las Vegas, Nev., and returned to Arkansas in 1975.

She is survived by two sons, David Louis Walker Jr. of Fayetteville and Douglas Wood Walker and his wife, Monica, of Little Rock, Ark.; her daughter, Melinda Suzanne Walker Truman and her husband, Don, of St. Augustine, Fla.; five grandchildren, James P. Cline and his wife, Carrie, of Munich, Germany, Eric Cline and his wife, Heidi, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jessica Dawn Truman Brasiel and her husband, Sean, of St. Augustine, Fla., Taylor Truman of St. Augustine, Fla., and Carson Walker of Little Rook, Ark.; six great-grandchildren, Caleb and Ethan Cline, Hailie and Hayden Brasiel and Jacob and Emilie Cline; and sisters-in-law Willadean Walker, Colleen Taylor and Louise Taylor, all of Fayetteville; nieces Marci Williams Waites of Houston, Texas, and Pamela Williams Hallin of Memphis, Tenn.; nieces Kathy and Karen; and nephew Mike Taylor; nieces Chula and Teresa Taylor and Christy Taylor; and nephew Jim Walker of Moore, Okla.; all of whom love and will greatly miss our "Tug." Miss Betty and Aunt Bea.

Services will be at Central United Methodist Church in Wesley Chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011. Burial will be private at Evergreen Cemetery in Fayetteville. The family welcomes donations to the Evergreen Cemetery Fund, in care of caretaker Dan R. McCormick, P.O. Box 1066, Fayetteville, AR 72702-1066.
