Carl Preston Lacy of Ida, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs at the age of 93 years. He was born July 4, 1919 at Ida, Arkansas, one of nine children born to Thomas Levi Lacy and Dora Deckard Lacy.
Carl loved his family and his home life. He and his wife, Mavis had been married for 67 years. His three grandsons and seven great-grandchildren were the love and joy of his life. He was a farmer by occupation and a member of Drasco General Baptist Chruch. Carl was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army 1st Armored Division. He landed in England and was then sent to Ireland, Italy, Sicily, and North Africa for a total of three years, three months, and one day stationed overseas. Carl was awarded five bronze stars for his military service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Billy, Willie, Doyle and Lewis Lacy and three sisters, Lula Davis, Luna Bradford, and Lela Kennedy.
Carl is survived by his wife, Mavis Lacy of Ida; his daughter, Lovenna Carol McDearmon and son-in-law, Calvin McDearmon, of North Little Rock; three grandsons, Scott McDearmon and his wife, Charlotte, Todd McDearmon and his wife, Beth, and Jeremy McDearmon and his wife, Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren, Chloe, Shelby, Erica, Dylan, Hunter, Faith, and Jenna; and his sister, Stella Cranford of Heber Springs; and other relatives and many friends who will miss him.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 1, in the Olmstead Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, at the Drasco General Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Billy Henderson and Rev. Dennis Ezell officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery at Ida.
Bruce Southerland, Gary McDearmon, Gary Martin, John Barnes, Darrell Allen and Mitchell Kennedy will serve as pallbearers.
