Samuel Jefferson Huckabee, 90, of Hope, AR, died on January 12, 2013, at St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana, TX. Mr. Huckabee was born on February 1, 1922, to Samuel Jefferson Huckabee, Sr. and Audrey (Brandon) Huckabee, in Poughkeepsie, Arkansas, Sharp County.
Mr. Huckabee was married on February 14, 1948, to Dortha Faye Cumbie (Caudle) of Hope, who preceded him in death on June 12, 2011, after more than 63 years of marriage. Mr. Huckabee will be remembered by friends and relatives as a loving, friendly, generous, humble, witty, compassionate, Christian, who loved his family and friends and his church, St. John United Methodist Church of Hope, of which he and his wife were among the charter members. A veteran of WWII, Mr. Huckabee was also a Mason and a retired Construction Inspector for the Arkansas Highway Department.
Mr. Huckabee is also preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kenneth Huckabee, and a sister Mary Bell Huckabee.
Mr. Huckabee is survived by three children, Jim Caudle (Zettie) of Conway; Linda Huckabee Honea, of Hope, and Mary Lou Huckabee Downs (Mike) of Hope.
Also surviving Mr. Huckabee are two sisters, Zelma Jones of Quitman, AR, and Erma (Richard) Ripley of North Little Rock. His surviving grandchildren are Jeff Caudle (Kim), Angela Caudle de Freitas (Andre), John Hooker, Tony Hooker (Holly), Sunny Miller (Heath), Samantha Honea, Chris Downs (Mary), and Jacob Honea.
Mr. Huckabee also leaves to cherish his memory fifteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Hope, Christus St. Michael's Hospital of Texarkana, and Hospice of Texarkana for their tender care of their dad.
Visitation will be Monday, January 14, between the hours of 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.
Services will be Tuesday, January 15, at 10:00 A.M., at St. John United Methodist Church in Hope, with Rev. Joe Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Garden
