*John Shields Eoff was the son of Paul Carlile Eoff and his first wife, Eady L Sanders who died in 1887. He was raised by Paul Eoff and his second wife, Mary Jane Curry. John married Martha Henrietta "Etta" Watkins August 3, 1904 in Van Buren Co, Arkansas, the couple being residents of Lexington, Arkansas at that time. Etta was the daughter of Henry Franklin Watkins and Mary Catherine Davis. John and Etta's children were Nellie Lea (Eoff) Lowrance, Bessie (Eoff) Lowrance, William Virgil Eoff, Vernon Eoff and Essie Gladys (Eoff) Wagner.

John Shields Eoff was a resident of Stone Co, Arkansas in 1900, moving to Van Buren Co sometime after that date where
he raised his family in the town of Elba. John was a farmer, operated a general store and was postmaster of Elba. His wife, Etta, was postmistress of Elba. John was a member of the Campbell Masonic Lodge in Marshall, Searcy Co, Arkansas.

*Martha Henrietta "Etta" (Watkins) Eoff was the daughter of Henry Franklin Watkins, a native of Alabama, and his first wife, Mary Catherine Davis who died in 1887. The children of Henry Franklin Watkins and Mary Cathereine Davis were said to be Mary, Nancy, Martha and Jesse F Watkins. From her father's second and third marriages, Martha had half-siblings Henry G, James William, Claude L and Floyd Watkins. Henry Franklin Watkins was a merchant with a general store in Van Buren County, Arkansas.

"Etta" Watkins married (John) Shields Eoff, the son of Paul Carlisle Eoff and Eda (Eadie) Sanders, natives of Arkansas. Etta and Shields were married in Van Buren County, Arkansas August 3, 1904. They were the parents of Nellie Lea (Eoff) Lowrance, Bessie (Eoff) Lowrance, William Virgil Eoff, Vernon Eoff and Essie Gladys (Eoff) Wagner. Shields and Etta farmed in Van Buren County, Arkansas. For a time Shields was postmaster of Elba in that county.
