EVANS, Wm. - (from Fairmount} The writer went to Brush Creek last Friday in response to a telegram and preached the funeral sermon of Wm. Evans, familiarly known as "Uncle Billy." Mr. Evans was born in Granger County, Tenn. Oct. 24, 1827. He was married to Leanner Fry in March 1845. She died July 1, 1887. He was married to Miss N.C. Smith May 12, 1889, who survives him. He was converted and baptised into the Locust Grove Baptist church in Granger County, Tenn. in 1854 or 1855. He was a charter member of the Wager Mill Baptist Church of which he was ordained a deacon and lived a consecrated Christian life to the time of his death, March 14, 1907. J.L. Chastain.
