Hill; captured at Fort Donelson, TN on 16 Feb 1862; held as a Prisoner of War at Camp Butler, Springfield, IL; exchanged at Vicksburg, MS on 23 Sep 1862; in hospital on 27 Sep 1862 at Canton, MS; skirmished at Jeanerette, LA on 14 Apr 1863 and a battle at Irish Bend, LA that same day; skirmished with Federal troops near Washington, LA on 01 May 1863; participated in skirmishes at Springfield and Plain's Store, LA on 24 May 1863; from 24 May 1863 to 09 Jul 1863 was besieged at Port Hudson, LA; surrendered at Port Hudson, LA on 09 Jul 1863 as one of 97 survivors of 484; participated in the Red River Campaign from 23 Mar 1864 to 30 Apr 1864 including skirmishes and battles at Mount Elba, Long View, Arkadelphia, Bozeman's House, Okolona, The Battle of the Bees, Elkin's Ferry, Prairie D'Ane, Moscow, White Oak Creek, The Battle of Poison Spring, Marks' Mill, and Jenkins' Ferry; discharged from service on 15 May 1865.
