*Obituary
On the night of May 15th, the death angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Cornelius and took from them their little son, William Claud, aged one year, three months and two days. He was seriously ill only a short while, an abscess on his lungs being the cause of his death. All that kind hearts and loving hands could do for him would avail nothing, and when the summons came, the dear one was called away to where there is life and immortality beyond the grave. He leaves a father, mother, two sisters, a grandfather, and grandmother, and a number of other relatives and friend to mourn his departure. His life was short on this earth, but his little spirit has gone to God who gave it. A precious one from us has gone, a voice we loved is stilled, a place is vacant in our home, which never can be filled. Weep not father, mother dear, earth's loss is heaven's gain, and Claud is with Jesus, where there's no sickness, sin nor pain. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. James Wingfield, then the sacred body was removed to the cemetery, where it was quietly laid to rest, there to await the resurrection morn. May Billingsley (Nevada County Picayune - May 31, 1917)
