Florence Strode Felker, 102, died May 17, 2005, at her home in Rogers. She was born March 18, 1903, in Bentonville to Claude Strode and Bennie Hobbs Strode.
Florence attended the University of Arkansas, became a member of Tri Delta sorority and completed her education at Draughan's Business College. For the next 23 years, she worked as Mr. Gregory's private secretary at the Rogers Vinegar plant. She married Warren R. Felker on March 14, 1929. She was especially proud of their family history and their contributions to the Rogers community. The couple purchased their home built by A.O. Clark on Cherry Street in 1939, where she lived until she passed away.
Florence's later years were spent contributing time to local organizations. She was one of the early board members of the Rogers Historical Museum, the State Recommendation Chair of Tri Delta for 18 years. She was a member of Chapter U and helped create Chapter PK PEO. She was also involved with Panhellenic, the Rogers Little Theater and the Rogers Library. Florence also enjoyedtraveling the world with her family and friends. Florence was also very active in the First Christian Church on Oak and 13th. Florence started a small stock trading club for women in the 1950s where local women could learn about the stock market. Above all, she enjoyed entertaining her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Warren; her son, Dick; her parents, Claude and Bennie; and her siblings, Frank, Hobbs, Helen and Elizabeth.
Survivors include daughter-in-law, Lu Felker and children Rick Felker and Julia Wilder; her nieces, Jo Alice Wallace, Sue Nichols and Clarice Moore. Other survivors include Mary Goldsbary and daughter Elizabeth, Matthew Moore, wife Lisa, and his daughters, Emily and Lauren and many wonderful friends.
Funeral services will he held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20 at the First Christian Church in Rogers. Pastor Chris Pulliam will officiate. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. until service time Friday.
Memorials any be made to the Rogers Historical Museum, Rogers Library or the First Christian Church.
Local arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Service, Rogers.
