the announcement of his very sudden death Wednesday AM the 22 inst. Judge Smoote was a native Tennessean. He came to Arkansas when he was a young man; was 61 years of age in Dec. last. He has never been elected to an office (always an unfaltering Democrat) but was a member of the Constitutional Convention 1874. He was learned in his profession and often acted as special judge in the Supreme Court; a literary genius and poet; one of the best posted men and well known over the state. He has long been a member of the M. E Church South....was born in Hickman County, Tenn., Dec 28, 1828. Came to Columbia Co., Ark. (Magnolia) in 1850. Since 1877 he has continuously lived in Prescott.
