BROYLES, Grace PICKENS - Grace Pickens was born at Pea Ridge, Arkansas on February 5, 1890. She was one of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Pickens. She came to Bentonville with her parents and while a resident in this city professed faith in Christ in December 1903 and at that time she united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Bentonville. When her parents moved back to Pea Ridge Grace transferred her membership to Pea Ridge congregation and at the time of her decease she was a member in good standing. As a child Grace was loved by all with whom she came in contact; she was the flower of the home and those who knew her best loved her most. As a young lady she was admired by her associates and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. On Dec. 15, 1909 she was united in marriage to Mr. Amos Broyles and since that time the sweetness of her disposition, the enthusiasm of her young life and elements of a true christian character have been utilized to brighten the life and home of her husband. What mind could imagine the secret hopes and plans of those lovers {for such they were} as they prepared for that trying ordeal which God has ordained that noble mothers shall meet; how bravely this young life met it. In the space of a few short hours the Head Gardener visited His earthly garden and as He planted a rosebud He plucked the rose that had bloomed and conveyed her to that celestial garden where her fragrance shall be immortal and flowers shall never fade. At Rudy, Arkansas on Sunday, April 23, 1911 at 7:50 a.m. at the age of twenty-one years, Mrs. Amos Pickens Broyles passed from time into eternity. Our prayers and sympathy go out to the bereaved husband, the parents, the sisters and brothers and the many sorrowing relatives and friends. We can weep with you but what shall be said of the motherless babe? She has lost more than you all. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. April 25, 1911 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Wm. McDougall, assisted by Rev. P. Carnahan after which the body was interred in the City Cemetery. Mrs. Amos Broyles was a member of one of our best families and at this time, when words would fail us, we feel sure that the large concourse of mourners will be evidence to Mr. Broyles and Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Pickens and family as to the place they have in the prayers and sympathies of our entire citizenship. Rev. William McDougall.
