*Obituary
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Myrtle Louise Arnold Compton, 90, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord, as well as her husband, Bill, and her daughter, Georgetta, on Friday, May 31, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Peggy, and husband, John Winter, in Broken Arrow, Okla.
She was born Nov. 25, 1922, in Evening Shade to Jim and Lillie May Ragsdell Arnold. She attended Delaplaine High School and was proud to be on the first basketball and softball teams in 1938.
She and Bill Compton were married 69 years before his death in 2008. They attended Delaplaine Baptist Church and farmed from the 1940s to 1994, when they moved to Broken Arrow to be near their daughter and family.
Myrtle also worked at Ed White Shoe Factory and Darling Store Fixtures for about 25 years. She retired in the early ‘80s soon after falling down a ladder and crushing her ankle.
Myrtle was a member of GloryLand Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, and she is credited with suggesting the name of the church. She loved being at church, and the GloryLand family was especially dear. She enjoyed teaching her Delaplaine Sunday school class, walking and crafting with friend Nellie Harpole, traveling to all of the states except Alaska, doing Word Search puzzles and, especially, watching Thunder and Maverick basketball and Cardinal baseball.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Winter and husband John of Broken Arrow; granddaughter, Laura Winter of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother, Kenneth Arnold of Paragould; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter; two sisters, Mary Gazaway and Hazel Cannon; and three brothers, John, Charlie and Junior Arnold.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould.
Her life will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Abanathy officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Ridge Cemetery.
