*Obituary
The journey of life for Ruby Virginia Howton began on February 17, 1945 in the rural community of Cotton Plant, Arkansas. She and nine other siblings were raised in the home of Leslie Thomas and Alice Pearl (Putt) Hancock. Ruby attended school in Cotton Plant and lived a great portion of her life in Brinkley. Living in a household of many siblings no doubt created in Ruby a sense of survival. Perhaps that was the structure needed for her ability to persevere in the hard times of life. Being a mother of six children was not an easy task either but one she met with great courage. In the latter years she developed a gentle soft spoken quality that fitted her perfectly as cashier for Brinkley Food Center and Wal-Mart. Some of her special interests included working in her beloved flower gardens, with yellow roses as her favorite. When it came time to enjoy music, her heart was always touched by the sweet sounds of the one and only “Elvis'. Ruby was a Baptist by faith and a member of the Good Hope Church in McCrory. With a family that began with two and grew to include six children, twenty one grandchildren and four great grandchildren her life will continue to touch others for many generations to come. At the age of 65, Ruby quietly passed away on April 7, 2010 at her home in Brinkley, Arkansas.
