ALLEN, Wm. - Died, at his residence 5 miles west of this city on the 30th of December 1868, Wm. Allen, in the 65th year of his age. When a good man dies it is a loss to the community as well as to his immediate friends and relatives and such was the case when Mr. Allen departed this life. His death had been long anticipated which tended to soften the anguish of friends and relatives. Conscious that the time was near at hand when he must bid adieu to earth and its turmoils, nerved and buoyed up with the ardor of a true christianity, he made all his preparations and met his fate with that calm resignation that attends only the good man when called to pass along the dark valley of death. He died as he had lived, one of God's noblemen - an honest, upright man. We will not attempt in the language of a cold calculating humanity to draw aside the veil that hides from the outer world the sorrow and grief of his stricken wife and children. Through the gloom of their sorrow comes the proud consolation that in all after years when they stand beside the grave of the departed husband and father they will realize the fact that in the green earth's quiet bosom sleeps one upon whom, during a long and useful life the breath of dishonor never rested and who went to the bosom of his God with all the christian hopes clustering around him. He has finished his course. The will of God is accomplished and the earth in her cold embrace conceals the form of our much loved friend; but he has left to all as a heritage an upright and manly example that it will be well to imitate.
