ASHWORTH, James H. - James H. Ashworth died at 7 o'clock Tuesday night at his home in this city, corner of Elm and Fourth streets. Death was the result of an operation that had been performed that evening and he died from the shock without regaining consciousness. Mr. Ashworth had been in poor health for a long time and last spring an operation was necessary. It was thought at the time that it had been a success but he regained his strength slowly and went to the home of his father at Mattoon, Ill. for a several months stay. He returned to Rogers about a month ago but continued to grow weaker until he realized that another operation was the only hope for recovery. Every possible care was taken but his weakened system could not revive after the operation. Funeral services will be held at the residence Saturday morning at 9:00 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. L.L. Brannon of the M.E. Church. Mr. Ashworth was born in Virginia July 7, 1853 but went to Arcola, Ill. seven years later after the death of his mother. He grew to manhood there and March 10, 1873 was married to Mary J. Noland. To them were born five children, all of whom are living and are: Walter E. Ashworth, Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Gertrude A. Blair, Pueblo, Colorado; Mrs. Alpha L. Larash, Pekin, Illinois; Frank L. Ashworth, Rogers and Ray Ashworth, Mattoon, Illinois. Mr. Ashworth went from Illinois to Arkansas City, Kansas where he lived for fifteen years and where his wife died. About twelve years ago he came to Rogers and bought an interest in the confectionery business of W.W. Reynolds and on February 9, 1901 he married Miss Sadie Reynolds, a daughter of his partner. To them was born one child, a daughter, who died in early childhood. Mr. Ashworth continued the business after the death of Mr. Reynolds and has been one of the best known business men of the city. Since his illness the business has been in the hands of his son. Mr. Ashworth was a member of the Odd Fellows and the M.W.A. and was also a member of the M. E. church of this city. He was always closely confined by his business and this was perhaps one of the chief causes of his continued ill health. He stood high in the esteem of the community in all matters of personal integrity and had a large circle of friends. The deepest sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved wife on whose shoulders have so often fallen the care of the invalid husband and the business as well and who is now left quite alone so far as her family ties are concerned.
