Martha Cable Whitehead, 94, loving and devoted mother, grand and great-grandmother, passed away at the Woodruff County Health Center in McCrory, Arkansas, on Monday, May 21, 2012.

Her passion was her devotion to her family, vegetable gardening, her farm and playing the piano for the children's Sunday School Class at Augusta First Baptist Church. She and her husband were lifelong residents of Augusta where they were in the mercantile and farming business. Martha was born December 12, 1917, in Antioch, Arkansas, to Frank and Willie Nevel Cable.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Moody Whitehead Sr., one son, Daniel Moody Whitehead Jr. of Augusta, and sisters, Lois Coates and Alcie Dean McCall. Survivors include her grandchildren, Rebecca Whitehead Benton and husband Robert Talbot Benton of Little Rock and David Moody Whitehead of Augusta; two great-grandchildren, Henry Talbot and Annabelle Catherine Benton; one sister, Mildred Hefner of Antioch; nieces, Jeanenne Belew Siler, Nila Jo Belew Pearson, and Ruth Ann Hefner; and one nephew, Billy Dee.

A family graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 24th at the Augusta Memorial Park. Arrangements by Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in McCrory. Memorials may be made to the Augusta First Baptist Church or the Woodruff County Health Care in McCrory.
