Verlie Mae Vinson, 73, of Hamburg died Sunday, August 11, 2002, in the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. A native of Montrose and a Hamburg resident for the past 30 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Curtis; a daughter, Debbie Joe James; her parents, Morris and Arma Givens Vinson; and a brother, Eddie Givens.

Survivors include four sons, Jessie Lee James, Eugene Morris and Thurman Lee Morris of Hamburg and Charles Edward James of Hutchinson, KS: three daughters, Ada Mae Johnson of Monticello and Cloten and Pearlie Mae James of Hamburg; one brother, Obery Givens of Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Bertha Mae Wilson of Milwaukee, WI; 42 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 17, in the Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. W. R. Taylor officiating. Pallbearers were Frederick Lambert, Larry Harris, Shannon Strickland, Chris Douglas, Eddie Givens, Ricky Givens, Oliver Caldwell, Jr., and Edward Morris. Burial followed services at the Johnson Memorial Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
