CRAIG, Elizabeth Ann RUSSELL - This community was greatly shocked last Tuesday when it became known that Mrs. Elizabeth A. Craig (familiarly known as Grandma Craig) had expired very suddenly at the noon hour at her home in this city. Mrs. Craig was up and around the house about as usual during the morning although she complained of being a little indisposed but thought nothing seriously of her indisposition and refused to have a physician summoned, saying she would be all right again in a short time. Her son, C.R. Craig, stopped in during the morning and enquired after her health. He stayed about an hour conversing with her and reading some articles she wished him to read her. When he left she seemed to be feeling better and insisted her ailment was of no moment. About noon she had the young lady, who has made her home with Mrs. Craig, prepare some mush, saying she felt like eating some of that food. When given her she only ate a little and then called for a glass of water. This was given her and while the attendant was in the next room putting away the empty glass, C.R. Craig, being on his way home to dinner, stepped into his mother's room to see how she was getting along by that time {having left her about an hour before} and found her apparently asleep, but an immediate examination convinced Mr. Craig that his mother had either fainted or was dying. Medical aid was immediately summoned but was of no avail for she lived only a few minutes, never regaining consciousness and passed away without a struggle and apparently without a pain - just fell asleep in a peaceful slumber. With the passing away of Mrs. Craig this community loses one of its oldest and most respected citizens. She was in the seventy-ninth years of her age and most of her life was spent in this city. She was a most estimable lady and in many ways a most remarkable woman; strong-minded, self-willed, well informed and possessed of an exceptionally bright intellect. She was a devout christian and much in love with her church. The funeral was held at the Cumberland Presbyterian church this afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the city cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Craig, daughter of J.B. and Anna Russell, was born in Ray county, Tennessee August 20, 1830. Died at her home in Bentonville, Arkansas March 23, 1909 at noon. Her father moved from Tennessee to Cane Hill, Arkansas when she was a very small child. She professed religion when a little girl only thirteen years old and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in which she lived an exemplary Christian life for more than sixty-five years. She was married to James Terrell Craig June 12, 1851. This proved to be a most congenial union and to them were born four sons. Brother Craig and two sons went before her to the home above. She leaves two sons, Charles and George, and a large number of relatives and a host of friends to mourn her loss. She was a good and companionable wife and did all she could to make her home happy. She was an affectionate mother, she loved her children dearly and prayed for them much. Her greatest desire was that they might be an unbroken family in heaven. She loved her church and was always ready to do what she could for its growth and development. For many years she was almost unable to attend the services of her church yet in her affliction she made up clubs for her church paper and contributed to all the boards. Her Bible - the old family Bible, with its family record written in her own hand, and the numerous verses marked, that have been a source of comfort and joy to her, with here and there a tear stain upon its fading leaves, makes it a treasure far above the price of rubies. J.S. Hall.
