ue Godair Roberts McCorkle, 72, of Little Rock, Arkansas, formerly of Stuttgart, Arkansas, died June 7, 2011. She was born November 20, 1938 in Des Arc, Arkansas, the daughter of Floyd Tillman Godair and Mary Jane Cox Godair. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Chester Homer Roberts of Stuttgart, and, most recently, her beloved sister, Zelma Godair Tipton of Michigan. She is survived by her husband, Bob McCorkle; two sons, Chet Roberts (Dr. Daniel Knight) of Little Rock and Mark Roberts (Keely) of Lonoke; a daughter, Crystal Hawley of Searcy; her “adopted” son and daughter, Andrew and Tammy Griffin of Stuttgart; a sister, Irene Clark of Des Arc; two brothers, Leonard Godair of Houston, Texas and Leroy Godair of Des Arc; two stepdaughters, Lisa Phillips of Clinton and Sabrina Brewer of Stuttgart; four grandchildren, Audrey and Eli Roberts and Justin and Austin Hawley; and five step-grandchildren, Satina Ball, Bo Brewer, Andrea Carter, Brent Peacock and Elizabeth Maxwell. Sue was a self-educated businesswoman who operated numerous business enterprises over the years, both with her first husband, and on her own, including rental properties, a residential and commercial construction company, the Daylight Donut Shop, the Tastee Freez restaurant and, most recently, in conjunction with her business partner and close friend, Gary Morris, Morris & Company, a home design firm in Stuttgart. Following her retirement, she and her husband moved to Little Rock in 2009. Sue’s passion – besides her family and her church – was designing and decorating both beautiful interiors and gardens. Though entirely self-taught in the art of interior design, her work rivaled and inevitably exceeded the best of formally-trained designers because she had a natural eye and talent for design and beauty. A small but elegant sample of her work was featured most recently in the 2006 issue of At Home in Arkansas in an article titled “Grand Design for the Grand Prairie.” In recent years, Sue could most often be found in her garden, where she applied her unique talents to beautifying the landscape and inspiring her neighbors to do likewise. Sue was a true Christian in the purest sense who never judged but simply loved all whom she encountered, regardless of their economic status, standing in the community, religion or race. Her manner of living reminds us all of the most central tenet of the Christian faith, which teaches us that “God is Love.” The family wishes to specially thank the doctors and nurses at UAMS and Hospice Home Care for their medical expertise and exceptional kindness to Sue in her brief illness, particularly her oncologist Dr. Issam Makhoul, who helped her survive breast cancer in 2006, and Drs. Keyrouz and Mireles and nurses Cynthia Whipple and Kristene Dillow in the UAMS MICU, who were earthly angels in Sue’s greatest distress. Funeral services are set for 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 10 at First Pentecostal Church, Calvary Road and Interstate 40 in North Little Rock.
