Bessie Mae Howard, 62, of Hamburg died Monday, October 31, 2005, at Ashley County Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Hamburg, a former employee of Akers Cleaners and a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Samuel Jenkins and wife Shalane of Hamburg; one daughter, Scherrie Coleman of Richmond, VA; three brothers, Ossie Howard of Muskogee, MI, Curtis Howard of Hamburg and John Howard of Pomona, CA; four sisters, Jeanette Howard of El Dorado, Leontyne Howard of Pomona, Denise Hipp of Decatur, GA, and Clara Daniels of St. Louis, MO; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Russell Lee Jenkins; her parents, Frank and Lillian Fowler Howard; four brothers, Charles, Joe and Glen Daniels and George "G. W." Howard; and two sisters, Flossie Simpson and Dorothy Gibbs.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 5, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Willie R. Taylor officiating. Burial was at Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg. Pallbearers were Reggie Wilson Sr., Roosevelt Simpson, Jessie Simpson, Ricky Daniels, Troy Paskel and Ephriam Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were deacons and trustees of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
