Vurnie Mae Hicks, 94, of Helena, Arkansas, passed away April 25, 2007 in Memphis, Tennessee. Mrs. Hicks was born on October 3, 1912 in Dixon, Mississippi to the late Austin Pullin and the late Rosie Richardson Pullin.
She is survived by her children: 2 daughters, Wilma Burns and her husband, the late Troy H. Burns, of Olive Branch, MS, and Virginia Hall and Cliff of Bartlett, TN; a son, Charles Edward Houston and Noelia of Fort Worth, TX; sisters, Dena D. Dees of Philadelphia, MS and Ruby Martin of Meridian, MS; a brother, Sidney Pullin of Dixon, MS; grandchildren, Frankie Houston, Vicky Houston, and Dale Houston and Sandra, all of Fort Worth, TX, Del Burns and Vonda of Greenville, MS, Lan Burns and Tracy of Lake Cormorant, MS, Delana Brown and Eric of Little Rock, and Drew Burns and Dana of Southaven, MS, Thomas Batts of Bartlett, TN; great-grandchildren, Monica Stewart, Brynn Burns, Rhett Burns, Cole Burns, Shonna Burns, Ashlan Burns, Jordan Burns, Erin Lester, Eli Burns, Wyatt Burns, Dayton Brown, Presley Brown, Shelby Batts, Madeline Batts and Dylan Houston; great-great-grandchildren, Emma and Brandon Stewart.
Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, Mack K. Hicks, and siblings, Dovie Pullin, Carl Pullin, Bailey Pullin, Hubert Pullin, Leslie Pullin, and Maudie Watkins.
Services for Vurnie Mae Hicks will be Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Roller-Citizens. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-9 p.m. at Roller-Citizens. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, West Helena. Reverend Earl Jones will officiate.
Pallbearers are Mrs. Hicks' grandsons, Del Burns, Lan Burns, Drew Burns, Thomas Batts, Dale Edward Houston, and great-grandson, Rhett Burns.
