William F. (Buddy) Burns, 71, of Bentonville died Tuesday in Fayetteville. He was born June 1, 1909 in Bentonville.
He was raised in Bentonville and was a graduate of Bentonville High School. He was also a graduate of the Kansas City College of Mortuary Science. He began his funeral home business in Centerton in 1933 and became the owner of Burns Funeral Home in Bentonville in 1934. He opened the Burns Funeral Home in Rogers in 1938. He was a licensed embalmer and funeral director in Arkansas and Missouri. He was the Benton County Corornor for 12 years and was the county civil defense director for many years. He was a charter member and past president of Bentonville Kiwanis Club, past and present commander of VFW, past commander of Bentonville American Legion, Post 77, chaplain of the Disabled American Veterans of Bentonville, and past chief De Gar of the Forty and Eight of the American Legion. He was a member of the Salvation Army in Bentonville for ever 20 years; a former member of Benton County Welfare Board, a former Boy Scout Commissioner, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Bentonville.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie Parker Burns of the home; three sons, William P. Burns of Rogers and Bob and Jim Burns, both of Bentonville; one sister, Mary Frances Traylor of Little Rock; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Bentonville with the Revs. Dean Mann, Don Evans and Lincoln York officiating. Burial will be in Bentonville Cemetery under the direction of Burns Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at Burns Funeral Home in Rogers and from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Burns in Bentonville.

Jessie Parker Burns, 83, of Bentonville, died Sunday, Oct. 25, at a Bentonville nursing home. She was born Aug. 18, 1909, at Cherryvale, Kan., to Claudius E. and Tella Hall Parker. She attended Phillips College, Enid, Okla. and in 1929, she began teaching music at Bentonville schools. in 1931, she moved to Centerton. In 1934, she and her husband started Burns Funeral Home, Bentonville, and in 1938, they opened the one in Rogers. She was a licensed funeral director, ambulance attendant, organist, singer, bookkeeper, cosmotologist, office secretary, and operated both funeral homes during World War II. She was active for many years in Kiwanis Ladies, American Legion Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and 40 & 8. She was an organist for the American Orthodox Catholic Church 1969-1990.
Her husband, William F. "Buddy" Burns preceded her in death.
Survivors are three sons, William "Bill" Burns of Rogers, Bob Burns and Jim Burns, both of Bentonville; two sisters, Dorothy McCoy of Hutchinson, Kan., Christine Bass of Bellevue, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Bentonville, with the Rev. Lincoln York and the Rev. Guy Whitney officiating. Burial will be at Bentonville Cemetery under direction of Burns Funeral Homes. Visitation is set for 5-7 p.m, today at Burns Funeral Chapel, Bentonville.
