Blondie Raye Gowens, 81, entered into rest on January 27, 2011 in Austin, Texas.
Blondie Raye was born February 14, 1929 in Timbo, Arkansas to Columbus and Vernia Viola (Johnson) George.
Raye was born in a snowstorm on Valentine's Day in 1929 in Timbo, Arkansas. She was delivered by a twelve year old county girl accompanied by her three year old sister, Juanita.
Raye lived a simple rural life but had her share of adventures exploring the countryside of Arkansas. She loved dancing, selling Avon and playing with her granddaughter, Nichole Reye Been, and great-grandson, Zachary Ray Been who are named after her.
She and her husband of almost 50 years, James Owen Gowens, Sr. had two sons who reside in Austin, James Owen Gowens, Jr. and George A. Gowens.
"GG", as her great-grandson Zachary called her, will be dearly missed and she will live on in our hearts and stories forever.
The family will receive friends from 2 - 6 p.m., Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress Avenue, Austin, TX.
In Mountain View the family will received family and friends from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Roller Crouch Chapel, Mountain View, Arkansas.
Funeral service is 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Roller Crouch Chapel, Mtn. View with interment in Flatwoods Cemetery, Mountain View.
