Obituary
Harry Shumard, 79, of Van Buren, Arkansas died Monday, October 10, 2005, in a local retirement center. He was a retired captain with the Oklahoma city Fire Department with 20 years of service, a past president and former volunteer for the Natural Dam Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Van Buren, an Air Force veteran, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.

Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial and Fire Department Honor Guard at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter; two sons; a sister; and seven grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Adult 7 Men's Sunday school class of Firt Baptist Church.

Betty Lou Shumard, 79, of Van Buren, died Saturday, October 31, 2009 in a local nursing home.

She was a retired superintendent's secretary for Cedarville School district and a member of First Baptist Church.

She was the widow of Harry Shumard.

She is survived by a daughter, Paula Butler of Natural Dam; two sons, Mike Shumard of Natural Dam and Greg Shumard of Oklahoma City; one brother, James Brown of Houston; nine granchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at Ocker Memorial Chapel with Rev. Scott Maze officiating. Burial was at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam.

Pallbearers were Brandon Shumard, Nathan Butler, Cody Butler and Treye Girdner.
