*Obituary
On January 5, 1916, Ida Elizabeth was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Jeanne and Lawrence Gabriel. After her father's death, at a very young age, her mother married Nathaniel Ricketts who became her adoptive father.
She attended school in the Gentilly Community and upon completion of the eight grade, she attended the Straight's Business School of New Orleans and became a certified seamtress, a vocation that she truly loved. On June 1, 1938, she was united in Holy matrimony to Peter Raymond McKey. To this union, five children were born. Ida was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, president of the Ladies Auxillary and PTA, secretary of the Altar Society as well as secretary of St. Mary's Academy PTA. She was very active in local politics and was a member of the Gentilly Voters League.
After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 1961, she became an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church where she remained until she returned to New Orleans and resumed membership at St. Paul in 1993. She devoted much of her time and talents to both of her parishes. She and her husband were the proud owners of McKey's Seafood House in Los Angeles for many years.
She was preceded in death by her late husband of 69 years, Peter McKey, Sr., one granddaughter, Jonette, two sisters, Gladys Victoria Fulton and Ethel Jones, one brother, Bill Ricketts and one niece, Rose Mary Anderson.
On February 4, 2013, she entered eternal rest at the age of 97. She realized that this earth was not her home. She leaves to celebrate her life; one daughter, Wylene Haynes of Conway, Arkansas, four sons; Peter McKey, Jr. (Ester) of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Warren McKey (Ruth) of Cleveland, Arkansas, Lawrence McKey (Shirley) of Concord, California and Richard McKey of Conway, Arkansas, one sister, Jeanne Gabriel of New Orleans, Louisiana, one sister-in-law, Camille McKey of Atlanta, Georgia, three special nieces, Karen Maxwell, Janet Jackson and Regina Draper. She also leaves 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
