SILOAM SPRINGS — Ruby Blanche Ross, 93, of Siloam Springs died Sept. 23, 2008, at her country home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Wolf Creek, to Dora and Lafayett Sherman Harviston.
Ruby was a homemaker, farmer and animal lover, noted for her compassion and willingness to take in and care for stray and unwanted animals. She enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, canning and raising cattle. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs. Ruby was extremely special, known for her heartfelt generosity, thoughtfulness and lovingly unique manner. She never knew a stranger and would give of herself to anyone less fortunate than her. She was without question one-of-a-kind and will be forever missed by all lucky enough to have known her. Ruby was truly one of God's precious gifts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Arthur Ross. They were married in 1937 at Shreveport, La., and spent the early years of their marriage in both eastern and western Texas before moving to Siloam Springs. Further, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Smith of Siloam Springs, three brothers, Clyde, John and Loy "Bud" Harviston.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Ross of Sacramento, Calif., Bob Ross of Caye Caulker, Belize; one brother, Billy Harviston of Anaheim, Calif.; three sisters, Clara Asher of Bakersfield, Calif, Donna Glover of Townsend, Ga., and Eva Charlene Sutherlan of Siloam Springs; two granddaughters, Michele Pigeon and husband Jim of Siloam Springs, Brandi Ross of Sacramento; six great-granddaughters, Emily, Brooke and Megan Pigeon of Siloam Springs and Meagan Pastana, Lisa Ross and Shealee Ross of Sacramento. She is also survived by a dear and lifelong friend, Clessa Myrick of Siloam Springs.
Private graveside services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs.
Arrangements are by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Ruby Ross to the Humane Society for Animals, P.O. Box 476, Rogers, 72757.
