WILLIAMS, James Edward - James Edward Williams was born at his grandfather's homestead, the late Samuel Williams, on September 20th, 1857, two miles west of Bentonville and was at that time the home of his father and mother, Joseph and Cynthia Williams. He was the only son of his mother's first marriage, a daughter dying in infancy. Of his mother's second marriage there were born one son, Thomas Baker of Idaho; and three daughters, Mrs. Emma Crawley of Bentonville, Ark.; Mrs. Annie Thompson and Mrs. Etta Powell of Kansas. Mr. Williams was married to Miss Mary Shumaker on December 28th, 1879. There were born to them eleven children - five sons, Joseph, Samuel, Lee Andrew, Omar and James - Samuel, Lee and James living; six daughters, Mrs. Addie Troutt of Sheridan, Wyo.; Mrs. Ben Davis of Tahlequah, Okla.; Mrs. H.L. Atkins of Bentonville, Ark.; Mrs. Ed Harp of Fairview, Okla.; Miss Merle Williams of Bentonville, Ark., and one daughter who died in infancy. Mr. Williams professed religion at the age of thirty years and joined the Methodist Church under the ministry of Thomas J. Reynolds. He died at his home at 5:25 o'clock on Monday morning, March 5th, 1928, aged 70 years, five months and 16 days. He leaves a wife, eight children, 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren to mourn his loss. Many relatives and friends were present at the funeral which was conducted at the family residence by Revs. W.T. Thompson and J.D. Allen and W.E. Bishop. Burial was made in the family plot on the farm. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved family in this hour of sorrow.
