*Obituary

Martha Ann Burman, beloved wife of Ronald Burman Passed away at the age of 74 in Mountain View, AR on May 20, 2009 after a long illness following a head injury.

Martha Ann was born in Monte Vista, Colorado on September 22, 1934 as the third child of Pearl Seifert Betts and Ralph Betts, farmers who had moved west from Kansas hoping for better land. Upon the death of her father in 1948, Pearl and her three daughters including Martha Ann moved to Compton, CA. There Martha Ann attended Compton High School and graduated in 1953. Her employment from 1960 was as an Accounting Payroll Clerk at Systems Development Corporation (SDC), a pioneering business computing specialist. She married Ronald Clair Burman on October 23, 1965. Employed as a maintenance worker by Delta Airlines at Los Angeles, CA and set up a household in Culver City.

Ron and Martha Ann, who preferred to be called Ann from the time of her marriage, enjoyed traveling all over California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, and especially exploring mountain roads and local culture in their motor home. After their retirement, the couple went into business in 1990 as proprietor's of "Postal Magic" a mailing service center in Camarillo, CA.

Ann was a warm person who loved to see her friends and make new ones. A particularly joy were her special indoor cats through the years, Siamese as well as Burmese. She especially looked forward to her meals in friendly company with Ron at P.J.'s Rainbow Cafe', JoJo's Catfish Wharf, Cody's Restaurant and many more.

Ann is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ronald Burman of Mtn. View and her sister-in-law Linda Burman-Hall of Santa Cruz, California and her daughter Sarina Hall, our nephew Steve Byers and wife Kathy of Prescott Valley, Arizona; niece Terry (Byers) and her husband Bob Pickett and niece Debby Byers all of Virginia.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents and by both sisters; Genevieve Betts Byers and LaVera Betts who devoted her life to Missionary work in Brazil as Wycliffe Bible Translator.

In lieu of flowers or formal remembrances, please honor Ann's memory by a contribution to a non-profit of your choice.

Martha Ann's remains will be buried at the 'Historic Cemetery of Mountain View Started in 1863'. The plot is near the rear fence overlooking a very country setting of a pasture and lake with horses and cows seemingly watching over the cemetery. It is a setting we both really liked.

A memorial service is 10 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2009 at Roller Coffman Chapel, Mtn. View.
