[from Logan Special) Little Virgil Frederick Stockton, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. T.P. Strickland, died in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stockton in Arkansas City, Kansas Thursday morning, April 17 at 3:30 after being ill three weeks with intestinal flu. The remains were brought to the home of Mrs. Stockton's parents at their request as Mrs. Strickland was unable to go to Arkansas City. All of Mr. Stockton's family, except one sister, came with them, leaving there Friday morning and arriving here at 7 p.m. The Rev. Willie Downum of Elkins conducted funeral services Saturday at 2 p.m. and burial was made in the cemetery at Thornsbury campground where there are several relatives resting, with Carpenter Brothers of Gentry in charge of the funeral. Virgil, only child of his bereaved parents, was born in Placentia, Calif. July 14, 1923, being 6 years, 9 months and 3 days old at the time of his death. He had often visited his devoted grandparents here and was loved by all who knew him here and in his own home in Kansas. Our sincere sympathy goes out to the broken hearted parents and loved ones in the loss of this bright, noble boy who had to go from this life so early to join his Maker. Mr. and Mrs. Stockton were accompanied from Arkansas City by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stockton, a sister, Miss Allie Stockton, three sisters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Harrington, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Woods of Arkansas City and Mr. and Mrs. 0. Gaddis of Dawson, Mo., a brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Stockton, a cousin, Lon Deane, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mansfield, a business partner of Fred's, all of whom returned to their homes after the burial. Other relatives from away who were here were a cousin, Hugh Neill of Springdale, Mrs. Stockton's uncle, Will Strickland, and Mrs. Strickland of Siloam Springs, and a sister, Mrs. Ethel Carter, and daughters, Misses Reba and Ricie, of Fayetteville, also many relatives in the immediate vicinity and many friends attended the funeral.
