Note the red circle at the right side of the photo which indicates the location of a smaller pile of headstones. There is only one headstone left standing in this cemetery. It is the headstone of S L Jefferson (1886-1929).
Apparently this cemetery was once located on both side of the paved road, but no headstones remain on the other side of the road. It is very near the Mississippi river levee in soft sandy soil, and it may be that time claimed the other headstones.
A farmer who cultivates land on the other side of the road reported finding a few pieces of headstones & footstones, and a complete headstone for Rosa Bethune, wife of Joe Cephas Bethune. The headstone was brought out of the field and stored at the farm shop, but was subsequently either misplaced or stolen.
