BELLA VISTA — John Francis Terry, "Jack" to all who knew him, passed away at his home on Jan. 9, 2002. He was born in Berkeley, Calif., on Sept. 25, 1922, to John Bascom and Evelen Allen Terry.

As a young man Jack attended the Palo Alto (Calif.) Military Academy and the University of California at Berkeley. He retired from the California Farm Supply Co. in 1969 as chief comptroller.

He then moved his family to Garfield where he raised Black Angus cattle and opened a public accounting office in Rogers. In 1984, he retired to Bella Vista.

Jack was a life-long musician, a gifted trumpet player and talented music arranger. He cut three albums with the Russ Morgan Orchestra during World War II. He was also the leader of the six-piece combo, "The Confederacy," and the "Jack Terry Big Band" here in Arkansas.

Jack enjoyed travel and new sights. He was an accomplished equestian and taught horsemanship as a Boy Scout volunteer. He also served as a sheriff's mounted patrol officer in Contra Costa County, Calif. He enjoyed flying and held a private pilot's 1icense. He was a member of the California Club of Bella Vista. He was also a ham radio operator and a member of the Repeater Club of Bella Vista.

Jack is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lorene McAbee Terry; a son, John Bascom Terry II of Bella Vista; a daughter, Wanda Jean Carlin of Springdale; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Fonteneau; three grandsons, Matthew John Terry, Steven James Terry and Gregory Allen Terry.

Cremation will be by Bella Vista Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at St. Theodore's Episcopal Church, 1001 Kingsland Road, Bella Vista, with Fr. Craig Gavin officiating.

Memorials may be made to the John F. "Jack" Terry Memorial Scholarship Fund, at any branch of the Arkansas National Bank.
