Margaret Beverly Jackson Snipes, age 89, went to heavenly home August 25, 2011.
Mrs. Snipes had lived in Mountain View for many years. Formerly a resident of Marion, AR, and Plano, TX, she and her late husband Wayne moved to Mountain View permanently in 1998. She previously taught school and worked as a librarian in Marion School District before retiring.
Born in Tupelo, MS, on Nov. 15, 1921, she was the daughter of Albert Harrison and Mary McCord Jackson. Her family helped to establish Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo in 1934. She was the last surviving charter member of BC where she started their girls in Action group, which is still thriving today. In 2009 she was recognized as Harrisburg celebrated their 75th anniversary. She was always active in the churches she attended, teaching Sunday School, missions, outreach, leading G.A.'s and singing in the choir.
During her lifetime she was active in many civic activities. She helped form the retired teachers association in Stone County, serving as their first president. Mrs. Snipes joined foothills Baptist Church in 1998 and remained a member.
She is preceded in death by her husband of more than 56 years Wayne; son Wayne Jr.; parents; brothers Jesse, James and Bobby; sisters Virginia, Sadie Bell and Rebecca. She is survived by her son Samuel Jackson Snipes of Wylie, TX, and his wife Myra; daughter Mary Margaret Ferguson of Mountain View, and her husband Roger; sister Mary Prudence Parish of Memphis, TN, and her husband Ralph; and sister-in-law Billie Jackson of Tupelo, MS. She also leaves seven grandchildren including Christopher Snipes of Texas; Straley Snipes Owen of Marion; Elizabeth Snipes Reese of Houston, TX; Storey Snips Williams of Bono; Laurin Ferguson Mosty of Fort Worth, TX; Jonathan Snipes of Russellville; and Justin Ferguson of South Lake, TX; ten great-grandchildren; and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include: Justin Ferguson, Jonathan Snips, Chris Snipes, Ricky Jackson, Jim Jackson, Tim Parish, Bruce Jackson and Fred Nasseri.
Funeral service is 3 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Roller Crouch Chapel with Bro. Junior Barham officiating and interment in Flatwoods Cemetery in Mountain View, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to: Harrisburg Baptist Church, 4675 Cliff Gookin Blvd., Tupelo, MS 38801
