FLETCHER, THOMAS MOORE, III, PH.D., died on November 18, 2011. He was born June 20, 1963, to Dr. Thomas M. Fletcher, Jr., and the late Frances Loraine Fletcher in Little Rock, AR. He graduated from Catholic High School in 1981 and received his undergraduate degree at University Arkansas of Little Rock. He is survived by his three wonderful children Elizabeth Avery, Thomas Moore IV and John Whitmire and their mother, Bobbie Wilfong Fletcher of Birmingham, AL; his father Dr. Thomas M. Fletcher, Jr., and stepmother, Barbara of Little Rock. Tom obtained a Masters Degree and Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1994 where he did extensive studies in virology. He then began a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the world-renowned laboratory of Drs. Beatrice Hahn and George Shaw at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, helping solve the origin of HIV/AIDS virus. He was then employed by the Southern Research Institute (Birmingham, AL) in their Drug Development Division as a Research Scientist/Virologist and Program Manager, building a state-of-the-art High Throughput Screening Program for the discovery of novel drugs. Tom recently joined Arkansas Genomics, a Forensics Laboratory in Little Rock, Arkansas. Tom is survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Ann Fletcher, wife of Randall Owens; Susan Fletcher Smith, wife of David Smith; John Presley Fletcher, husband of Stacy Fletcher; William Steele Fletcher, husband of Joely Fletcher; all of Little Rock, AR; and Jefferson Bowman Fletcher of Fayetteville, AR. In addition he is survived by his stepsiblings, Joseph C. (Doak) Walker III; William (Duke) Walker; and Shea Walker Siler, wife of Randy Siler; all of Little Rock, AR. He was preceded in death by his mother and by a sister, Frances Ann Fletcher. He is survived by twelve nieces and nephews and numerous friends and relatives. Tom had an exuberant personality and friends who loved him like a brother. He was a gourmet cook and loved entertaining. Honorary pallbearers are Don Burrows, Drew Christian, Keith Gilstrap, Ben Guise, Tim Jones, Jay Markham and Howard Schwander. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, at Grace Presbyterian Church with Reverend Shauna Silman officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in Augusta, AR. A reception will follow the service . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a scholarship fund for the benefit of his children, The Fletcher Scholarship Fund c/o Metropolitan National Bank, or to the charity of your choice.
