PRAIRIE GROVE — Wanda Sue Zarelli, 74, of Prairie Grove, died Jan. 4, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. She was born Sept. 29, 1933, in Prairie Grove to Birdie and Mac Mason.
She was a 1951 honor graduate of Prairie Grove High School and had received the American Legion Merit Award. In the early 1960s, she moved to Hollywood and began a career as a hairstylist and business woman. She was the first licensed female barber in the state of California. She was recognized as the top hairstylist in Los Angeles. In 1975, she opened Zarelli Look hairstyling salon in Beverly Hills, Calif. Her clients included Lucille Ball, Barbara Eden, Vince Edward and many others.
She returned to Prairie Grove in 1985 and worked for 10 years in the dining hall department at the University of Arkansas.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993 and took most of her treatments at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, where she represented the state of Arkansas at the groundbreaking of the new cancer treatment center in Tulsa in 2005. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and genealogy.
She was a member of the Prairie Grove Methodist Church and the Eastern Star and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Robison and Leandro Zarelli.
Survivors include two sons, Marcus Joe Robison and wife Leslie of Haskell, Texas, and Jonathan Shawn Robison of Prairie Grove; one sister, Peggy Lou Karnes of Fort Smith; one brother, L.H. Mason of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren, Macy Kate Robison and McCauley Joe Robison of Sulpher, La.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove. No other services are planned.
