Gerald Delbert "Jake" Thrasher, Sr., 79, of Coushatta, Louisiana and formerly of the White and Woodruff County areas, died Friday, July 16, 2010 at his son's home in Bonanza, Arkansas. He was born October 16, 1930 in Batesville a son of the late Orville and Virgie Swanson Thrasher. Jake enjoyed farming in the West Point area as well as in Coushatta from 1967 until 1998. He was an avid dog lover and had taken in many animals throughout the years. While living in Coushatta, Jake owned and operated Red River Radiator where his motto was "a good place to take a leak."
He is survived by his son, Gerald Thrasher, Jr. and his wife Donna of Bonanza; daughters, Bobbie Ann Watson and her husband Billy of Hartman and Brenda McCartney of Halton, Louisiana; grandchildren, Stacy Lynn Thrasher of Darby, Kansas, Paul Gean of Coal Hill, Bobbie Ann Gean of Webb City, Charlene Bates of Hagarville, Shane Felts of Coushatta, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Dakota Hughes of Bonanza, Amber, Justin and Chelsey Durning all of Ozark, Zachary and Morgan Thomas both of Hagarville and Jacob Felts of Coushatta, Louisiana; 2 sisters, Mary Ann Keeling of Patterson and Wanda Everett of McCrory; a special niece, Christi Harrison of McCrory and his special dog "Scooter."
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles and Wayne Pokejoy.
Services were Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Bald Knob. Visitation was 1 hour prior to the service. Those serving as pallbearers were Gerald Thrasher, Jr., Mike McCoy, Lloyd Hicks, Gary Harrison, Billy Watson and Shane Felts. Interment followed in the Fakes Cemetery near McCrory by Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob - Judsonia and Searcy.
The family wishes to thank the Peachtree Hospice Group of Ft. Smith as well as his caregivers, Kathy McCoy and Donna Thrasher.
