Mr. Barry Edward Alumbaugh, resident of Quitman, died on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009. Mr. Alumbaugh was 64 years of age.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. tonight at the Heber Springs Funeral Home and from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the McCrory First Baptist Church followed by the funeral service there at 2 p.m. Bro. Dan McCormick and Bro. William Piercy are the officiating ministries with special words written by Anna Cain read by her father, Tim.

Interment will be in Fakes Chapel Cemetery with Thompson-Wilson Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Barry was born in McCrory on May 21, 1945, the son of the late Edward and Ella Mae Groaning Alumbaugh who preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of McCrory High School and was first married to the former Sue Kyle who preceded him in death.

He owned and operated Barber Insurance in McCrory before moving to Hernando, Miss.

In later years he moved to Quitman where he lived the remaining years of his life.

Barry believed in living life to its fullest and left many wonderful memories for his remaining family and friends.

He was a member of the National Guard, Pines Baptist Church and The Auto Club. Barry had a great collection of old cars, which were very important to him.

However, his family was his first priority.

He was married to the former Thelma Darby on May 20, 1993, who was not only his wife, but also his best friend.

His grandchildren took precedence over everything and everybody.

They were the light of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma of the home; two daughters, DeDe Cain and her husband Tim and Audie Alumbaugh, all of Conway; one stepdaughter and her husband, Stephanie and Mike Kennedy of Hernando, Miss.; five brothers and their wives, Bob and Lois Jean Alumbaugh of McCrory, Ben and Carol Alumbaugh of Germantown, Tenn., Butch and Mary Alumbaugh of Searcy, Birdell and Susie Alumbaugh of Quitman and Burl and Sharon Alumbaugh of Overcup; three sisters and their husbands, Berry and Jerry Honey of Harrison, Bonnie and Norman Betts of Newport and Brenda and Charles Coley of McCrory; one sister-in-law, Joyce Alumbaugh of Searcy; five grandchildren, Anna, Mary Kate and Kyle Cain and Caden and Mallory Kennedy; as well numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ella Mae Alumbaugh; his first wife, the mother of his children, Sue Kyle Alumbaugh; and one brother, Bill Alumbaugh.

Pallbearers are Leo Leopold, Terry Lindsey, Lance Reynolds, Dorothy Gaines Smith, Billy Joe Swaffer, Tom Morrow, Otis Joe Reynolds and Lonnie Wiggins.

Honorary pallbearers were his brothers and sisters, Brenda, Bonnie, Betty, Bob, Burl, Birdell, Ben and Butch as well as Tim Cain, Mike and Caden Kennedy, Kyle, Anna and Mary Kate Cain, Mallory Kennedy, Dr. James Rowe and the members of the North Central Arkansas Cruisers.
