William Michael "Will" McGary, age 26, of Searcy, Ark., a loving son, grandson, brother and friend, passed away on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, in Little Rock, Ark., with his family and friends at his side. He was born Nov. 20, 1986, in Heber Springs, Ark., to Harold Gene McGary and Tonya Denise Compton McGary. Will enjoyed life and made life better for all he met. He was an Officer for Conway (Arkansas) Police Department, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a child of God that worshiped at Valley Baptist Church. He had many passions including, grilling, hunting, fishing, racing, all sports (especially baseball) and was also an avid Razorbacks fan. He loved being a big brother and spending time with family and friends. Will has been described as an amazing person with a love for so many people, a warm heart, contagious laugh, sweet smile and a soul that lit up a room. He was an organ donor, touching lives and helping people even after his death. He is survived by his parents, Harold and Tonya McGary; one sister, Lindsey Erin McGary; grandparents, Michael and Faye McGary, Leona Forester, Leonard Compton; seven uncles and aunts, Diane and Bruce Rodtnick, Dwayne and Paula McGary, Marian and Olin Wahrmund, Sherry and Tommie Lewis, DeOnne and Leland Pruitt, Jacque and Ben Overesch, Danny and Norma Compton; twelve cousins, Kerry Rodtnick, Christopher McGary, Traci Sandefur, Leslie McGary, Jason Wahrmund, Bryan Wahrmund, Tracy Criswell, Jennifer Haley, Susie Loyd, Laura Toton, Dena Kay Pruitt, Aaron Pruitt; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his step-grandfather, Earl Forester; and step-grandmother, Lela Compton. Visitation is from 6 until 9 p.m., Tuesday, at Valley Baptist Church. Funeral services are at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Valley Baptist Church, with interment to follow at Romance Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Valley Baptist Church or The Fraternal Order of Police.

Police Officer William McGary succumbed to injuries sustained the previous night when he was struck by an intoxicated driver at the intersection of Dave Ward Drive and Exchange Street.

Officer McGary was directing traffic at the scene of another accident when a car struck him at about 8:00 pm. The driver who struck him was arrested at the scene and charged with several counts, including driving under the influence of narcotics.

Officer McGary was flown to a hospital in Little Rock where he remained in serious condition until succumbing to his injuries. He served with the Conway Police Department for just under two years.
