Ruth Canada Ayers, 86, of Jackson's Gap, Ala., died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, in Opelika, Ala. She was born July 25, 1917, in New Mexico to Marshall L. and Ethel Nora Matthews Ayers. She was a homemaker and a member of Assembly of Yahweh. She loved to crochet and quilt and made many beautiful pieces for family and friends. She also loved to read, sightsee and have her family together. She was the widow of Enos Ayers. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ocker Memorial Chapel with burial at Hall Cemetery near Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren. She is survived by four daughters, Tressie Pennington and her husband, Roy of Jackson's Gap, Ala., Lessie Ruffin and her husband, Clisdol of Van Buren, Joquetta Sanders and her husband, Luther of Parrion and Oowalah Henderson and her husband, Jimmy of Tallassee, Ala.; two sons, Marion John Ayers and his wife, Alice of Titus, Ala., and Jimmy Doyle Ayers and his wife, Sarah of Jackson's Gap, Ala.; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends before the service today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home, 700 Jefferson, Van Buren. Times Record Online
