Frances Pauline Johnson, age 77, of Higden, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Mulberry, Arkansas, on April 24, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Omer and Eula B. (Mott) McDaniel.
Mrs. Johnson was a retired employee of The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, Tennessee, where she worked as a linotype printer.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Alexander Sheppard; and one nephew, Tommy McDaniel.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin Johnson of Higden; two sons, Robert D. Alexander of Atlanta, Georgia, and Timothy L. Alexander and his wife, Dayna, of St. Louis, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jonathan Burton and Justin Burton; five great-grandchildren, Brendon Burton, Ethan Burton, Molly Burton, Callie Burton, and Cameron Burton; two nephews, Jerry McDaniel and his wife, Kathy, of Crestview, Florida, and Harold Akridge and his wife, Charlotte, of Bella Vista; and one niece, Connie McGonigal and her husband, Kelly, of Austin. Mrs. Johnson is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
In her early forties, Fran met the love of her life who whisked her off to live in Iran and Saudi Arabia - pretty exotic for a farm girl from Mulberry, Arkansas. While living overseas she got to live out one of her life-long dreams when she visited Egypt and got to ride a camel in front of the pyramids. She loved to travel and visited Thailand, Cyprus, Hong Kong, and Spain, one of her favorites, especially the area around Denia.
Fran was a hard worker who instilled her work ethic into her children. She adapted to any challenge thrown her way and always came out smiling. She loved entertaining, especially around the holidays, and enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends.
Fran was an animal lover who never hesitated to take in a stray and nurse it back to health if needed. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, beginning at 12:00 noon at the Shiloh Cross Roads Chapel with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Shiloh Cross Roads Cemetery.
