Jewell Patton Morgan was born April 21, 1888 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Patton, on the eastern part of Pea Ridge. There she grew to womanhood, surrounded by loving brothers and sisters, kind and indulgent parents and many friends. She received her education at the home school and the Pea Ridge Masonic College. She was converted at the age of fifteen at the Central school house at a series of meetings conducted by Rev. Joyner. She immediately afterward joined the M.E. church, South at Buttram’s Chapel, living a consistent Christian. Characteristic of her life was her great love for her church and her influence for good. She was for many years a teacher in the little Sunday school at Central. She was happily married to Chris Morgan in December 1908 and came to the home of her father-in-law as a loving daughter and was received as such. One bright little girl came to bless this home, not yet two years of age. The crown of motherhood sat well upon her. While she had not been well for some time, only recently her loved ones regarded her condition as serious. She went to the Sanitorium at Booneville but receiving no benefit, came home. It soon became evident to those nearest that her bright young life was fading away. All that medical aid, loving care and willing hands could do was done but to no avail; the battle was lost. Her faith never faltered and on April 8th the boatman came and wafted her spirit home. She leaves a devoted husband and a precious little daughter, whose loss is irreparable, but many are the willing hands to care for her; father, mother, five brothers, three sisters and many relatives. She was tenderly laid to rest in the Buttram’s Chapel cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. Dodson of Rogers and her pastor, Rev. Wheeler.
