(from Pea Ridge) John Francis, a pioneer settler of east Benton County, died at his home on Prairie Creek Saturday at the age of nearly 90 years. Burial was made at Buttram’s Chapel on Pea Ridge Sunday afternoon.

John A. Francis, 79, died at his home on Prairie creek at 8:15 p.m. Friday. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 1:30 with burial in the cemetery at Buttram’s Chapel in charge of J.W. Bryant. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Julia Francis; one son, J.W. Francis, and three daughters, Miss Hester Francis, Mrs. L.A. Gordon and Mrs. N.L. Gordon, all of Rogers.

The funeral for John A. Francis was held Sunday afternoon at his home conducted by Dr. Oscar Ingold of the First Christian church of Rogers, assisted by the Taylor quartet of Garfield. Burial was at Buttram’s Chapel near Pea Ridge. The deceased died May 15 at 8 p.m. He was born in Wilson county, Tennessee July 17, 1851 and came with his parents to Benton county during his boyhood and he spent the greater part of his life in the vicinity in which he died. He was married to Julia M. Lee Sept. 9, 1877. To this union were born nine children, five having preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, one son and three daughters: John W. and Hester Francis, Mrs. N.L. Gordon and Mrs. L.A. Gordon. There are also five grandchildren to mourn his passing.

LIVED 80 YEARS IN BENTON COUNTY

Mrs. Julia Lee Francis, age 80, who died at her home east of Rogers Thursday, was buried Friday at Butram’s Chapel on Pea Ridge.

Mrs. Francis was born on Pea Ridge in 1854 and was one of the oldest native born residents in the county. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lee.
