PATTERSON, Dean - Dean Patterson, the nine year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Patterson, well known Pea Ridge residents, was killed Friday evening when he fell from the W.L. Ice truck and the rear wheels passed over his body. The boy was instantly picked up and taken to his home nearby but died within 15 minutes after the accident. Dean did not lose consciousness until the end but was able to utter but few words after being picked up from the road. Medical examination a few minutes after death showed that several ribs had been broken and that it would have been impossible to save him. The truck had some 1200 pounds of lumber yon board which made a heavy load. The funeral ceremony was held next day and Rev. Pruitt of Pea Ridge and Rev. Brumfield of Bentonville preached the sad funeral ceremony. Friends and relatives of the Patterson family extend their sympathy to them in their great loss.

Dr. and Mrs. J.S. Thompson received a telegram last Saturday morning which called them to Pea Ridge to attend the funeral of the lady's nephew, little Dean Patterson, who was killed by an auto truck Friday evening August 27th. The truck was stopped and his uncle, Dick Patterson, who also was on the truck, ran to pick him up. The lad asked to be stood upright as he thought his legs were broken. Finding that he cold support himself thus, he inhaled a deep breath and the blood gushed from his mouth. He was carried to his home some blocks away and his mother was summoned. Just as she appeared Dean waved his hand to her in farewell and was gone. Dean was 9 years and 9 months old and leaves a host of relatives at Pea Ridge who are over-whelmed by shock and grief in this tragedy. A large funeral was conducted at the home with Revs. Brumfield and Truhitto in charge. The little boy was laid to rest in Buttram Chapel cemetery there.
