COVEY, Terry - Last Monday afternoon about 2 o'clock a terrible tragedy was enacted at Gravett in which Terry Covey, a miller, lost his life and H.L. Todd, a farmer, his liberty. There was an altercation over the difference in the amount of flour Covey was to exchange for Todd's wheat. The die was passed and they came to blows. When separated it was found that Covey had been fatally stabbed three times - once in the hip, once in the arm and once in the right side. The injured man lingered about five hours before he died and his assailant, who escaped immediately after the affray, was arrested early on Tuesday morning at Joe Presley's house near Seba by Constable Russell and Carse Phillips who were compelled to fire four shots at the fleeing man before they succeeded in capturing him. He was brought to this city by Deputy Sheriff W.F. Orr who lodged him in jail to await his preliminary examination which will be held on Friday. The remains of Terry Covey were interred in the Bethel cemetery 1 1/2 miles south of Gravett on Tuesday, August 28. Deceased leaves a young wife to whom he had been married about ten months while Todd has a wife and six children.
