William Earle Hamil, M. D., a promising young physician of Pocahontas, Ark., was born in Randolph County, June 1,1879, and is a son of R. N. and Blanche (McDowell) Hamil. His father came to the county in 1849. At the age of sixteen the father enlisted in the Confederate army and served two years, when he was discharged. After the war he was engaged in planting and mercantile operations, being one of the most influential citizens of the county. Doctor Hamil was educated at the Northern Indiana Normal College, at Valparaiso, graduating in 1898. The following year he graduated in pharmacy, and in 1902, received his degree of Doctor of Medicine from the Marion Sims-Beaumont College and Hospital of St.Louis, Mo. He returned to his native city and began the practice of medicine, and although less time than two years has elapsed since he left college, he is on the high road to professional success. He is a member of the Arkansas Medical association and is secretary of the Randolph County Medical society. Early in 1904 he was appointed a railroad surgeon for the "Frisco" system at Pocahontas, a fitting recognition of his skill and rising prominence. Doctor Hamil is a member of the Masonic fraternity, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Knights of Pythias, in all of which he has a high standing.
