MELBOURNE - Billy K. Tate, 73, of Melbourne died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, in Batesville.
Born Feb. 2, 1936, in Lafferty, he was the son of E.W. and Clara Twilly Tate. He was united in marriage to Vida Banks on July 13, 1960. He served in the U.S. Army. After retiring from Moremans Feed, he enjoyed many years of working with his cattle and sheep. He enjoyed deer and squirrel hunting, his feisty squirrel dogs and hearing his wife sing and play the guitar. He was a member of Melbourne First Assembly of God Church.

Billy K. Tate of Melbourne, Ark, son of the late E.W. Tate and Clara Twilley Tate, was born Feb. 2, 1936 in Lafferty, Ark. He died on Feb. 27, 2009, in Batesville, Ark., at the age of 73 years.
He was united in marriage to Vida Banks on July 13, 1960, and to this union four children were born.
He served in the United States Army.
He retired from Mormans Feed and was a farmer. He was a member of the Melbourne First Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by: his wife of 48 years, Vida Banks Tate of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Kristy Tate of Melbourne; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cynthia Tate of Melbourne, Shelly and Scott Bailey of Mt. Pleasant, and Joy and David Smith of Sage; five brothers, Don Tate, Raybourne Tate, Mickey Tate, Delmo Tate and Greg Tate all of Melbourne; one sister, June Hamilton of Raytown, Mo; five grandchildren, Andi Bailey, McKee Bailey, Garrett Smith, Lacy House and Triton Tate; one great-granddaughter; Tinley Bailey and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Sarah Tate Morehead.
Funeral services were held March 2 at the Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Robert Davis, Arlie Strong and Jennifer Martin officiating. Burial followed at Reeves Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers were Jackie Helms, Terry Tate, Charles Grissom, Roger Cook, Jim Phipps and Tommy Weatherford.
Honorary pallbearers were the Tate brothers, brothers-in-law, grandsons and nephews.
