SILOAM SPRINGS — Robert "Bob" Morris Smith Jr., 72, died March 18, 2008, at Northwest Medical Center-Springdale. He was born March 10, 1936, in Fayetteville to Robert Morris Smith and Lois Windham Smith.

He married Mary Evelyn Webb, on Sept. 3, 1960. He was a 1953 graduate of Fayetteville High School and a 1958 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a degree in animal husbandry. He worked for the UA for more than 18 years in beef cattle research. He was an insurance agent for Farmer's Insurance Group for 24 years, retiring in 2002. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter. He was a Baptist and enjoyed Bible study.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary; one son, Carter Smith and wife Heidi of Cincinnati; one daughter, Shari Garrett and husband Terry of Cincinnati; one grandson, Elijah Cole Garrett; two sisters, Lois Jeanne Buck of Oklahoma City and Lynell Lucke of Rowlett, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Crenshaw officiating.
