McGAUGHEY, Eliza Ann SHAFER - Mrs. Eliza Ann McGaughey, 85, a pioneer citizen of Rogers, died at her home at 1002 South Third street at 11:30 Monday morning following an illness of little more than a week. Mrs. McGaughey suffered a stroke of paralysis Saturday afternoon, February 28 from which she failed to rally. She had been working in the yard and had gone into the house to rest. A short time later her sister, Miss Ella Shafer, entered the room and found Mrs. McGaughey in an unconscious condition. Mrs. McGaughey and her husband, the late H.N. McGaughey, came to Rogers in 1881, the year the Frisco railroad was built, and purchased an 80-acre farm in what is now the southern section of the city. The original farm home occupied the site of Dr. W.J. Curry's home and the home where she spent her declining years was also located on the original farm. During the early days Mr. McGaughey had extensive business interests here and both he and Mrs. McGaughey were prominently identified with the early civic life of the community. Mrs. McGaughey is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J.B. Iden of Kansas City, and eight grand children; two sisters, Miss Ella Shafer of Rogers and Mrs. C.E. White of Elkhart, Ind. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 with burial in the Rogers cemetery with J.W. Bryant in charge.
