BALL, Whitt - Whitt Ball, one of the most popular young men of Rogers, died Monday morning at his home, corner of Second and Cherry, the F.C. Hawkins place. His death was a great shock to our people for only a few knew that he was even ill. A week earlier he had been afflicted with a fever but was doing nicely and as late as Sunday morning was thought to be improving. Sunday evening he grew suddenly worse and his trouble was diagnosed as uremic poisoning, a kidney trouble. He was given every possible attention but sank rapidly and passed away Monday morning about 10:30 o'clock. Mr. Ball had for the past year or two been employed in the clothing department at Parks and before that clerked in one of the local drug stores. He was an officer in the local order of Elks and a member of their male quartette. He was a popular and likable young fellow and numbered a large number of our people among his friends. He was married the 7th of last October to Miss Pearl Rice, oldest daughter of Dr. R.S. Rice, and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to the young bride so soon and so suddenly confronted with one of the greatest griefs of life. Funeral services were held at the Central M.E. church yesterday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev. F.A. Lark, and Rev. U.S. Thomas of the Baptist church. The Elks assisted in the services. Interment at the city cemetery. Mr. Ball was born at Alexandria, La. February 21, 1888, being 27 years and 10 days old. He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. I.W. Ball who came here to attend the funeral. Some 4 or 5 years ago Mr. Ball, Sr. bought a farm near Rogers and the family came here for their health. Whitt Ball, who had been working in Little Rock, came here also but his father remained at Alexandria. The family moved to town for a year and then later returned to Louisiana. A sister, Mrs. McCoy, of Little Rock was here with her husband to attend the funeral.
